The holiday season has come and gone and hopefully everyone is still sticking to their 2016 new years resolution. Now January is where almost everyone start preparing for the next celebration Valentine’s day. What might have started as a marketing stunt for greeting card companies is now celebrated world wide, even in Holland where I attended a special ladies night event for the release of the romantic comedy movie Brasserie Valentijn organised by the local movie theater. Brasserie Valentijn (link to trailer here) tells the story of Valentijn (Dutch for Valentine) who runs a successful restaurant called Brasserie Valentijn with her brother Angelo who is the Chef. The movie takes place on Valentine’s day which their busiest night and everything must be perfect, however surprisingly Valentine’s old flame Frank is also at one of tables, which makes for a romantic night not only for the guest but for Valentine as well.
For the ladies night I went solo, but once there I met several lovely ladies who were also there to enjoy a night out. The movie theater had several stands selling jewellery and other fashion items. As I had bought the ladies night deluxe package movie ticket, I was greeting with hostesses that offered unlimited sparkling wine and then guided to a private area where there tables filled with sweet and savoury snacks. The movie theater also had a wardrobe where the deluxe ticket holders could hang their coats. Before the movie started several prizes were raffled with the main prize being a goodie bag worth € 300.00. However no one was left empty handed as everyone received popcorn and drinks for the movie and a goodie with more than € 40.00 worth of products.
I pretty much enjoyed the movie and later learned that it was remake of the 2012 Belgian movie Brasserie Romantiek. The movie is similar to romantic movies where several stories of different characters are intertwined but with the difference being that in this movie it all took place at one location. This made think that it would also do well if they decided to do a stage play adaptation.
Would love to hear if you also like romantic movies. Which one is you favourite or do you find that movie genre just terrible? Let me know in the comments.
